Special Education – Keeping Hopes Alive
SPED otherwise known as Special Education is the term for schools or any education system that offers education for students with learning problems due to mental health issues, behavior problems, speech and language problems, visual impairments, autism, deafness, trauma and other health impairments. At the beginning we can say that SPED students are not capable of attending normal school, SPED teachers teach them on specialized schools, home, hospitals and other institutions. But soon after years of specialized education offers a transition program for SPED students that will allow them to attend normal school just like anyone does.
To become a Special Education teacher, is to become an unsung hero. SPED teachers are always patient and understanding of their students. They must be passionate about their profession and set a good inspiration for their students. Motivate his or her students to learn the basics of life and education.
Indeed being a SPED teacher is a good Samaritan act, but not everyone can be a teacher specialized on this type of education since it requires some standardized education in order to become a SPED teacher – Technically you can’t but you still can help through simple ways.
You can be a volunteer on schools where you can assist the teachers to lighten up their load on handling special people. You can donate some stuff like notebooks, pens, writing boards and other stuffs. Donation is a good way to provide support on SPED institutions.
Education should have no limits. Everyone has the right to be educated including those special people, those people that has god given gift to be special. They have the right to normal lives and no one can take it away from them. For people concerned, we should keep their hopes alive.
Kids Educational Games – A Smarter Choice Than Video Games
Unlike 15 years ago, the kids games that are available today are failing to contribute towards the education of our children.
Games like battleships and monopoly were common, and although more fun than educationally-focused, they still instilled a reasonable degree of learning. Monopoly made you calculate figures in your head and about how to best use that money, whilst battleships helped with memory retention.
Today however, has taken a turn for the worse. While there are some excellent kid’s educational games available in shops around the world, there is far greater market emphasis on games that involve watching a computer/television screen. Yes, computer games like Xbox and Nintendo are consuming a large percentage of children’s time outside of school.
What’s worse is that children don’t even need to head to the “spacies parlour” and stand up playing these games anymore. They can simply play one of their Xbox or Nintendo games from the comfort of their own home.
Not only are the thousands of video games contributing next to nothing towards our children’s learning, but they’re also making them less active and in many cases more obese. The most alarming thing is that a large proportion of today’s parents are happy enough for their children to do this.
There are a certain percentage of parents that are against these games and are sensible enough to want to introduce kid’s educational games from a very young age. There are superb audio learning games available, activity packs, comprehension and colour learning games. There are also games that involve shapes and positions, matching up pictures, counting games and a number of great puzzles.
It is games like these that teach kids to have to think for themselves and want to learn more. They also provide kids with great motivational skills and the willingness to express themselves and their creative side.
Encouraging our kids to use educational games will ensure that they develop a lot quicker than those kids who numb their brains by being stuck in front of a computer/television for hours on end. Kid’s educational games are the ideal way to develop kids into smart, logical thinking young adults. It will also better assist these young adults develop into successful working adults.
The availability of video games will continue to grow, however this doesn’t mean children have to play them. It’s up to parents to take responsibility and think about their children’s future.
Special Education Inclusion
Special education inclusion signifies the participation of special education students in regular education classrooms and provision of support services to these students. The main objective of inclusion education is that all students in a school, regardless of their strengths and their weaknesses in any area, become part of the school community. Every student develops a feeling of belonging with other students, teachers, and support staff. In segregated special education, children will not learn how to function in a non-disabled world. For instance, children who are disabled in terms of communication and are emotionally distressed would not communicate and might remain in a more emotionally disturbed state in segregated settings. The federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) holds it mandatory for schools to educate children with disabilities in general education classrooms.
The prime advantage of special education inclusion is that both disabled and non-disabled students are brought together in an environment of togetherness. Children learn to accept individual differences in inclusion education and this would lead to the development of new friendly relationships. Inclusion education also enables active participation of parents in their child’s education. The law also states that students with disabilities have a legal right to attend regular classes and receive an appropriate education in the least restrictive environment. Although the advantages are many, inclusion education creates an uncertainty regarding the roles and responsibilities of regular classroom teachers and special education teachers. However, researches show that inclusion education can be made effective by a healthy collaboration of special education teachers and regular teachers. With the assistance of services that would be available from the health department, physical education department, occupational therapists, speech therapists, etc., the school administration can aid the teachers to develop active lesson plans for inclusion education. Thus schools can create a cooperative learning environment and promote socialization.
